A structure fire Wednesday afternoon caused major damage to two businesses in Lompoc, Battalion Chief Scott Nunez said Thursday.

Personnel from the Lompoc Fire Department responded at approximately 1 p.m. Wednesday to a fire at a commercial establishment at 1022 W. Ocean Ave.

Vandenberg Fire Department and Santa Barbara County Fire Department crews also were dispatched along Lompoc police officers, who helped with traffic control.

Firefighters arrived to find a working fire in the structure, with heavy smoke showing from the exterior.

“Arriving crews immediately deployed hose lines and were met with heavy smoke inside the structure,” Nunez said. “A request for additional resources were made due to the size and nature of the incident.”

Firefighters stopped the forward progress of the fire in approximately 20 minutes.

No injuries were reported but multiple businesses were affected due to the fire.

The cause of the fire in currently under investigation, Nunez said.
