A home being remodeled was damaged by fire on Tuesday in downtown Santa Barbara, according to the Santa Barbara City Fire Department.

Firefighters were dispatched shortly after 7 a.m. to the single-story residence on the 400 block of Bath Street.

Upon arrival, they found smoke coming from the structure, which was vacant, fire Battalion Chief Robert Mercado told Noozhawk.

Crews were able to quickly douse the flames, Mercado said, and made a search to make sure no one was in the home.

An investigators was called in to search for the cause of the blaze, “which appears accidental in nature,” Mercado said.

No further information was available.
