Firefighters responded Monday afternoon to a two-alarm residential structure fire in Montecito, according to the Montecito Fire Protection District.
The blaze was reported at about 2:30 p.m. at a residence on the 500 block of Picacho Lane.
The first units arrived to find smoke pouring from the structure’s chimney, and a second alarm was issued, bringing in more firefighting resources.
“Crews found very heavy smoke conditions initially,” Christina Atchison, Montecito fire public information officer, told Noozhawk. “They located the fire in the chimney and quickly knocked it down.”
However, the flames had extended into the walls and a second-floor attic space, Atchison said.

“The fire is under control, but firefighters are actively working to extinguish any remaining hot spots,” she added.
One person safely evacuated from the home and called 9-1-1.
No injuries were reported.
The cause of the blaze remained under investigation.
