Firefighters were able to fully contain a vegetation fire burning near Highway 101 in the Gaviota area on Thursday afternoon.
Crews were dispatched shortly after 2 p.m. to the fire just north of the northbound highway rest stop and south of the tunnel.
At about 5:20 p.m., crews were able to stop the forward progress of the flames, and build a containment line around the entire fire, Santa Barbara County fire Capt. Daniel Bertucelli told Noozhawk.
The area charred was estimated at about 5 acres, he added.
Two water-dropping helicopters and two air tankers were sent to assist firefighters on the ground in battling the flames.
Authorities ordered the closure of northbound Highway 101 between Mariposa Reina and Highway 1 in southern Santa Barbara County due to smoke and the proximity of aircraft dropping fire retardant.
Power lines were reported down in the area.
Investigators responded to the scene to look for the cause of the blaze, which may have been related to the power lines, Bertucelli said.
A hand crew and a water tender were expected to remain on scene overnight to monitor for hot spots, Bertucelli said.
No injuries were reported.
Personnel from Los Padres National Forest assisted on the incident.
