Firefighters responded to a vegetation fire west of Santa Maria late Tuesday night and contained the blaze to less than 1 acre, according to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.

The blaze was reported on the 4000 block of Black Road around 11:45 p.m., Capt. Scott Safechuck said.

Santa Maria City firefighters and county firefighters responded to the scene and stopped forward progress within half an hour.

Crews stayed on the scene afterward to extinguish hotspots and investigate the cause, Safechuck added.
