One person was found dead inside a burning home Wednesday afternoon in the Tanglewood neighborhood near Santa Maria.
Santa Barbara County firefighters responded shortly after 3:30 p.m. to a two-alarm residential structure fire reported on the 3500 block of Rosales Street, according to fire Capt. Scott Safechuck.
Flames were reported to be coming out the windows of the single-family, single-story home when the first crews arrived.
Firefighters conducted a search of the structure for anyone who might be inside, and were ventilating the roof, Safechuck said.
Later in the afternoon, Safechuck confirmed search operations led to the discovery of a deceased person inside the home.
The person’s name was not released pending notification of relatives.
Three older vehicles were parked in the driveway and front yard of the home, as stacks of cardboard boxes sat in the garage.
The fire was knocked down at 4:24 p.m., Safechuck added.
Fire crews remained on scene performing mop-up operations, Safechuck said.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation, Safechuck added.
