Dos Pueblos flag football celebrated Senior Night with a 35-0 win over Rio Mesa on Thursday at Scott O’Leary Stadium in Goleta.
The Chargers (15-2, 4-0 Channel League) have now won 12 straight games heading into the second half of league play next week, beginning with a home game against Ventura on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
Dos Pueblos began the night by celebrating its senior class, a class that was freshmen when flag football was introduced to the school. The program was ranked the fourth-best team in the CIF-Southern Section in the first CIF-SS rankings of the season, and is now the No. 5-ranked team in California on MaxPreps
Ruby Streatfeild had a Senior Night to remember, throwing for four touchdown passes and rushing for a 42-yard touchdown to account for all five of the team’s scores.
Hedricks hauled in a pair of the touchdown passes, while Jane Gibson and Hazel Burgess had one touchdown catch apiece.
On the defensive end, CiCi Moccardini had an interception for the Chargers and Makyla Watt tallied a sack.
Santa Barbara High 26, Buena 0
The Dons blanked the Bulldogs in a Pacific View League game on Thursday at Peabody Stadium.
Santa Barbara scored on the opening possession courtesy of a 9-yard touchdown pass from Laila Hernandez to Elina Stump. Shea Gannon hauled in the extra point to take an early 7-0 lead.
Buena had a chance to answer late in the first, but Stump and Gannon came through with sacks on three straight plays to force a turnover on downs.
On the next play, Hernandez dumped a pass off to Stump, who weaved her way through the defense for a 52-yard touchdown. Eva Hervouet secured the extra point to take a 14-0 lead into halftime.
“The three straight sacks on defense and the big touchdown from Elina were a huge lift for our team before half and a big momentum swing,” Santa Barbara High head coach Travis Mañach said.
After the third quarter went scoreless, the Dons extended their lead to 20-0 early in the fourth on a 3-yard touchdown pass from Lylee Harris to Gannon.
While the Santa Barbara defense continued to dominate, Harris put the cherry on top of the win with a 15-yard rushing touchdown that brought the game to its final score of 26-0.
“After Tuesday’s game, we all talked about how we need to execute better if we want to make some noise in October. Today was much better,” Mañach said.
Stump stuffed the stat sheet for the Dons, collecting 10 flag pulls and five sacks for the third straight game. She also had 80 rushing yards, 71 receiving yards and two touchdown receptions.
“Elina was a game changer today,” Mañach said.
Gannon also had two sacks, while Aurelia Agredano and Vanessa Esparza swiped eight and seven flag pulls, respectively.
Ventura 6, San Marcos 0
The Royals dropped a defensive slugfest with the Cougars on Thursday at Warkentin Stadium.
It was a 0-0 tie throughout the vast majority of the matchup, with Ventura scoring the lone touchdown of the night with under five minutes left on the clock.
Scarlett Holian hauled in nine catches for the Royals, who struggled to finish off drives in the loss.
Defensively, Norah Leonardi tallied six flag pulls and two sacks, Marilyn Monroy added two tackles for loss and both Holian and Victoria Aldana snagged interceptions.
San Marcos will host Oxnard High for another league matchup on Tuesday.
