San Marcos girls flag football kicked off its season in grand fashion, rolling to a 33-0 victory over Lompoc High on Tuesday at Warkentin Stadium.
The Royals’ defense was on fire from start to finish, recording the shutout with Piper Kittle, Cami Weiss and Bella Bazylewicz hauling in interceptions.
Meanwhile, Victoria Aldana led a potent offensive attack with 169 total yards of offense and four passing touchdowns.
Aldana tossed a pair of those touchdowns to Bazylewicz, with the other two going to Kittle and Scarlett Holian. Kalina Estrada rounded out the scoring with a four-yard rushing touchdown.
San Marcos (1-0) will have a quick turnaround as it hosts Palos Verdes on Wednesday at 1 p.m.
Santa Barbara High 31, Oak Park 12
The Dons also began their season with a convincing win, taking down the Eagles at Peabody Stadium on Tuesday.
“This was a great team win today,” Santa Barbara High head coach Travis Manach said. “We got contributions from everyone on the roster today. It was a really great way to start the season.”
An interception by freshman Maddie Stoll kickstarted the Santa Barbara offense, as it led to a 6-yard touchdown pass from senior Laila Hernandez to senior Elina Stump to take a 6-0 lead early in the second.
After Oak Park answered with a touchdown of its own, the Dons punched back as Hernandez and Aurelia Agredano connected on a 55-yard catch-and-run before Stump broke off a 20-yard rushing touchdown to go up 13-6 heading into halftime.
Stump continued to roll in the second half, breaking free for a 66-yard touchdown run and following that up with a 50-yard punt return touchdown for her fourth score of the day.
Santa Barbara rounded out its scoring when an Agredano interception led to a 3-yard rushing touchdown by Lylee Harris. Oak Park scored early in the fourth to bring the game to its final score of 31-12.
Stump totaled 126 yards from scrimmage to go with her four touchdowns, while Agredano turned in a strong game defensively with five flag pulls, three pass breakups and an interception.
The Dons (1-0) will now host Hueneme on Thursday at 6 p.m.
