San Marcos flag football dominated from start to finish in a 33-0 Senior Night rout of Rio Mesa on Thursday night at Warkentin Stadium.
The Royals (13-9, 2-5 Channel League) snapped a three-game losing streak with the win and will close out the regular season on the road against Ventura High on Tuesday.
San Marcos opened the game with a bang, with Victoria Aldana and Drea Obispo connecting on a 30-yard catch to set up a 4-yard touchdown pass from Aldana to Jaylee Perez to grab a 6-0 lead.
After a defensive stop, Aldana found Kalina Estrada for a 30-yard touchdown and Scarlett Holian hauled in the extra point to take a 13-0 lead into the second quarter.
Both sides of the ball stayed hot in the second, preserving the shutout while Maisie Jolly snagged a 10-yard touchdown catch from Aldana and Holian added the extra point to make it 20-0 at halftime.
The two teams exchanged punts to open the second half, but the Royals got right back into the endzone when Aldana ran it in herself from 10 yards out. Estrada’s extra point extended the lead to 27-0, which held into the fourth.
San Marcos rounded out the scoring in the fourth quarter when Aldana and Obispo came together for a 15-yard touchdown catch that brought the game to its final score of 33-0.
Obispo, who was one of the seniors honored pregame, recorded six catches for 81 yards and a touchdown. Meanwhile, Perez had a sack and Marilyn Monroy tallied seven flag pulls to celebrate their Senior Night.
Piper Kittle turned in a record-breaking performance, setting a new program record in receiving yards in a single season with 1,183 yards with one game to go.
Santa Barbara High 46, Del Sol 0
The Dons dominated their way to a Pacific View League rout of the Jaguars on Thursday in Oxnard.
Santa Barbara High (13-4, 5-2 PVL) has clinched a spot in the CIF-SS playoffs and will end the regular season next Tuesday on the road against Buena.
“We played with great energy tonight. It was a great bounce-back game after the disappointing loss Tuesday. We are excited knowing our season isn’t over after our last league game next Tuesday,” Santa Barbara High head coach Travis Manach said.
Elina Stump got things started for the Dons on Thursday with a 34-yard touchdown run and a catch on the extra point for the early 7-0 lead.
The SB defense then flexed its muscles on the next drive, with Eva Hervouet jumping in front of a pass and taking it to the end zone for a pick-six. Stump hauled in the extra point again to double the lead to 14-0.
The Dons continued to roll in the first half, with Lylee Harris rushing in a score from 2 yards out, Stump breaking off a 19-yard touchdown run and Harris connecting with Sophia Olmedo for a 6-yard score and a 33-0 halftime lead.
The SB defense maintained the shutout throughout the second half, thanks in part to two more interceptions from Hervouet and two picks by Shea Gannon.
Meanwhile, Harris rushed in another score and tossed a 5-yard touchdown pass to Lena Fackler.
Harris, making her first start at the quarterback position this season, completed 17-of-24 pass attempts and accounted for four total touchdowns.
