San Marcos flag football erupted for a 45-14 rout of Rio Mesa for its first Channel League victory of the season on Tuesday in Oxnard.
Quarterback Victoria Aldana got the Royals (12-6, 1-2 CL) started early, rushing in a touchdown and the extra point to give her team a 7-0 lead.
After Norah Leonardie came up with a safety to extend the lead to 9-0, Aldana went back to work and found Piper Kittle for a 20-yard touchdown.
It was all Royals for the rest of the first half, with Aldana throwing another touchdown pass to Scarlett Holian and rushing one in from 29 yards out. Kittle rounded out the first half with a 14-yard touchdown pass to Maya Llewelyn to take a 37-0 lead into halftime.
San Marcos continued to dominate out of the break on both ends, with Aldana finding Madilynn Adler for a 22-yard touchdown and Leonardie securing another safety to balloon the advantage to 45-0.
Rio Mesa didn’t go away quietly, scoring twice late in the fourth quarter before the Royals finished off the road win.
Aldana completed 24 of 27 pass attempts for 210 yards and three touchdowns, while also adding 90 rushing yards and a score on the ground. She also hauled in an interception on the defensive end.
San Marcos will host Ventura for another Channel League matchup on Thursday at 6 p.m.
Santa Barbara High 21, Del Sol 0
The Dons blanked the Jaguars for a Pacific View League win on Tuesday at Peabody Stadium.
Elina Stump dominated the game from the start, coming up with her first of five sacks to force a punt on the opening drive and rushing in a 20-yard touchdown to go up 6-0.
After exchanging stalled possessions, the Dons got back on the board with a 6-yard touchdown pass from Laila Hernandez to Shea Gannon, with the duo connecting again on the extra point.
Vanessa Esparza then came up with an interception for Santa Barbara High, which was turned into points on an 8-yard touchdown completion from Lylee Harris to Shea Gannon to make it 19-0.
The Dons continued to dominate on the defensive end down the stretch, with Gannon securing a safety in the third quarter to bring the final score to 21-0.
“Our rush game was strong tonight with eight total sacks,” Santa Barbara High head coach Travis Mañach said. “I would have liked to have seen a sharper second half, but we take the win and move on to Buena on Thursday.”
The Dons are now 9-2 overall and 2-1 in league action ahead of a home game against Buena on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
