Long-time Santa Ynez High football coach Josh McClurg will take on the responsibilities of athletic director at the school.

McClurg was named to the position last week. He replaces Ashley Coelho, who left Santa Ynez and accepted a teaching and coaching position at Lompoc High.

McClurg, a Santa Ynez alum and a 2011 inductee to the school’s Wall of Honor, has been the Pirates’ head football coach since 2012 and a teacher at the school. He previously coached and taught at Nipomo High. He is well known in the community and is very knowledgable about high school sports on the Central Coast.

“His extensive coaching and teaching experience make him an ideal candidate to lead the athletic program for the 2023-24 school year,” Santa Ynez Valley Union High School District Superintendent Andrew Schwab said in a statement.
