The week of April 21 is designate Community Development Week (CD Week), a time to promote the programs and projects funded with federal grant programs like Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) and HOME Investment Partnership.
CDBG and HOME are administered nationally by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
“These programs are needed more than ever to help the city’s most vulnerable residents and improve the overall condition of the city’s neighborhoods,” the city of Santa Maria reports. “Every dollar of CDBG and HOME funding leverages more than $5 in other sources of funding, bringing additional vital resources to communities.
To celebrate these funds, the following events are planned in April:
• Tuesday, April 22 – Free Public Resource Fair, 3-6:30 p.m. in Shepard Hall, Santa Maria Public Library, 421 S. McClelland St. The Community Programs Division will host the public fair with local nonprofits. Learn about local services, resources and programs.
• Wednesday, April 23 – Housing Rights Clinic, 5:30-7:30 p.m. in Shepard Hall, Santa Maria Public Library, 421 S. McClelland St.
Community Programs Division, in partnership with Legal Aid Foundation of Santa Barbara County, the housing rights clinic will address housing issues such as fair housing, and discrimination. Members of the city’s Code Enforcement Division will answer questions related to substandard living and other housing-related ordinances.
