Zane Petty pitched four shutout innings, and the Santa Barbara Foresters capitalized on errors by the Academy Barons to take a 4-1 win in the first game of a four-game homestand at Pershing Park on Thursday.
Petty, a right-hander from Texas Tech, scattered five hits, walked one and struck out two. He threw 48 strikes out of 73 pitches.
Carson Turnquist relieved Petty and gave up one run on three hits and two walks in four innings. He struck out five. Blake Pivaroff pitched a scoreless ninth.
The Foresters took advantage of an error by the Academy Barons’ third baseman and scored two runs in the third inning. Will Rogers and Eamonn Lance each hit two-out singles to drive in the runs.
The Barons made it a 2-1 game in the eighth on a RBI hit from Maxwell Dias.
Santa Barbara scored twice in the bottom of the eighth to secure its fourth straight win. Max Belyeu had a RBI double and he later scored on an error on a ball hit by Jalin Flores.
The Foresters (6-3) play host to the Ventura Pirates on Friday at 6 p.m.
