Jalin Flores drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the 10th inning to give the Santa Barbara Foresters a 7-6 win over the Academy Barons at Pershing Park on Thursday.
This was the first game of the second half of the California Collegiate League season.
The lead changed hands several times in the game. The Barons capitalized on an error to take a 5-4 lead in the sixth inning.
The Foresters came back in the bottom of the inning as Ryan Black singled to drive in Rylan Galvan for the tying run.
Will Rogers gave the Foresters a 6-5 lead in the seventh with a solo homer. But the Barons tied the score in the eighth on a fielder’s choice.
Outfielder Greg Pace was called on to pitch in the ninth and threw two shutout innings to pick up the victory. It was the Michigan Wolverine’s second relief appearance. He struck out two.
Black had two hits and two RBIs to lead the Foresters, Rogers and Anthony Silva also collected a pair of hits. Daniel Patterson hit a solo homer in the third inning to tie the score a 3-3.
The league-leading Foresters (15-6 in the CCL, 19-6 overall) play the Barons at the MLB Academy in Compton on Friday before returning home for a Saturday evening game against the second-place OC Riptide at Pershing Park.
