The Santa Barbara Foresters extended their losing streak to three games after falling to the MLB Academy Barons by a score of 5-3 on Wednesday in Compton.
Three errors spelled the Foresters’ (2-4) downfall, with the first coming in the first inning to give the Barons an early 1-0 lead.
Santa Barbara answered quickly, however, as Rylan Charles drove home Kade Higgins with an RBi single in the top of the second to tie it up at one apiece.
The Barons responded in the bottom of the third with a two-RBI double by Mark Hernandez to recapture the lead for good at 3-1.
After two full scoreless innings, the Barons put the game away, extending their lead to 5-1 with two more runs in the bottom of the sixth courtesy of a Forester error and an RBI single from Kamau Neighbors.
Santa Barbara’s late comeback effort was fueled by an error from the Barons in the top of the seventh as two runners came around to score on a three-base error in right field, cutting the deficit to 5-3.
However, the Foresters fell short and were shut down for the remaining two innings.
For Santa Barbara, Payton Tolle turned in a solid outing, allowing one earned run on four hits and three walks while striking out four. Four of the five runs given up by Forester pitching were unearned.
Offensively, Higgins scored twice, while both Charles and Miguel Santos recorded two-hit games.
The Foresters will host the Barons at Pershing Park at 6 p.m on Friday in their next matchup.
