With automatic runner Chad Wallach on second base, Stefanic lined a 0-1 changeup from Nick Ramirez into left field to score Wallach.
The Angels mobbed Stefanic, who was called up from Triple-A Salt Lake City on July 14.
Left-hander reliever Aaron Loup stranded the Yankees’ automatic runner by notching two strikeouts in the top of the inning.
Shohei Ohtani tied the game for the Angels with a two-run homer in the seventh inning. It was his major league-leading 35th homer.
