Dillon Tate, a former UCSB pitching star, has been promoted to the Baltimore Orioles, the team announced.

Tate was the fourth overall pick of the 2015 Major League Baseball Draft, taken by the Texas Rangers.  He was traded to the New York Yankees during the 2016 season and was dealt to the Orioles close to the 2018 trade deadline.

This is Tate’s first call-up to the majors.

The right-handed Tate, 25, experienced arm issues and inconsistencies early in his professional career and changed his trajectory.

He has been solid at Double-A Bowie, working to a 3.48 ERA with 30 strikeouts and nine walks over 33.2 innings in 15 relief appearances and a pair of starts.
