A 25-year-old man died in a shooting late Friday night, Lt. Paul Van Meel of the Santa Maria Police Department said Tuesday. 

At 11:22 p.m. officers were dispatched to the 300 block of West Lolita Lane for a report of a shooting. 

Upon arrival they discovered a man with multiple gunshot wounds.

He was transported to Marian Regional Medical Center for treatment but was pronounced dead, police said.

The victim has been identified as Brandon Cabrera of Santa Maria, police said.

Detectives were continuing to investigate the fatal shooting and did not say whether anyone had been arrested for the homicide.

A GoFundMe page, “In Memory of Brandon: Support His Family” has been started to help the family of a man they identified as Brandon Cabrera Mendez. 

The family described him as “a loving son, devoted father, cherished brother, caring nephew, loyal cousin, and a dear friend to many.

“His sudden departure has left an unfillable void in all our lives,” the site added.

“He was known for his infectious laugh, his kind heart, and the light he brought into every room. Brandon touched countless lives with his humor, generosity, and unwavering spirit. He will be deeply missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.”

As of Tuesday morning, the site had raised roughly $900 toward the $16,000 goal.
