Francine Smith

Francine Smith passed away in Santa Barbara on June 29, 2025. Her life was defined as a life of service for her family, friends and community. Alzheimer’s took this bright light away from our community far too soon.

Francine’s life centered on being a devoted wife and mother, and to giving of herself to her friends and community.

For her children’s growing up years she was able to be a stay at home mom.

When her children were grown, she had the opportunity to serve as a receptionist at a local dentist’s office. Her pleasant smile and friendly greeting welcomed the patients to what is for most not the most exciting part of their day.

After Francine retired, she served as a volunteer at Goleta Valley Cottage Hospital for several years. Even during her early years dealing with Alzheimer’s she was able to assist visitors find their way and feel welcome and cared for.

Francine also served in her church’s library for many years. She loved helping people find and check out books, and she especially loved helping the children.

She also had a passion for quilting, and for many years was a member of the Coastal Quilt Guild of Santa Barbara/Goleta.

There will be a celebration of Francine’s life at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 6 at Santa Barbara Community Church, 1002 Cieneguitas Road, Santa Barbara. All who knew Francine are welcome.
