Led by Teddy Vigna with a 69, freshmen golfers shot Dos Pueblos’ top three scores in a win over Lompoc in a Channel League match on a windy day at par-72 La Purisima Thursday.
Behind Vigna, fellow freshmen Scott Nightingale shot a 74 and Laith Reynolds a 75.
The Chargers prevailed, 375 to 576.
Vigna had seven birdies in his round and hit 14 greens in regulation. Nightingale had only two bogies, and Reynolds had back-to-back birdies on the par 5 15th hole and the long par 4 16th.
“Today was a very windy day and there is lots of trouble in every hole,” Dos Pueblos coach Kevin Ahlers said. “The boys should be proud of themselves for going to a very hard course and challenging themselves to keep the ball in play.
“The whole team has so much potential and I am looking forward to what they can do the rest of season.”
After a week off for spring break, the Chargers next play against San Marcos at Sandpiper Golf Club on Tuesday, March 29. They are 1-0 in league and 4-1 overall.
