Providence girls tennis celebrated Senior Day with an important 12-6 win over Thacher in a Tri-Valley League match.
The Patriots and Toads are battling for third place in the league behind Foothill Tech and Cate. Providence hosts Foothil Tech next Tuesday at the Santa Barbara Muncipal Courts.
In their first meeting, Providence and Thacher tied in total sets, and the Patriots prevailed on total games, 72-70.
“This is a tribute to our overall improvement as a team and to finally having a full squad to compete,” said coach Chris Elwood. “Our doubles teams were thundering today, and I am so proud of their aggressive net play and firm returns of serve. Our singles players also gave us a whopping six points with steady play and some power tennis by Avala Elwood.”
Seniors Jane Krautmann and Mia Vandever swept three sets at No. 1 doubles. The sister duo of Jacky and Janelle Pryko used their strong play at the net to rally from 3-5 down for their first of their wins.
