A portion of Calle Real was shut down near Santa Barbara Tuesday afternoon after a garbage truck caught on fire.

Santa Barbara County firefighters were dispatched shortly after 2:30 p.m. to the incident on Calle Real just west of El Sueno Road, near the road up to the transfer station, according to fire Capt. Scott Safechuck.

“The truck operator placed the contents on Calle Real in order for firefighters to extinguish and overhaul the fire,” Safechuck said.

He added that firefighters were able to quickly douse the flames.

MarBorg Industries, the truck’s owner, sent a crew to clean up the charred mess from the roadway.

No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire was under investigation.
