A walk-off single by Garrison Goldberg gave the Santa Barbara PONY Baseball 12-Under All-Stars an 8-7 win over the Newbury Park 12-Under Gold All-Stars on Saturday in Camarillo.
Santa Barbara was down 7-6 heading into the bottom of the seventh, and Goldberg’s clutch single scored the game-tying and winning runs.
As a team, they collected seven hits and three different players stole at least two bases, with Gabriel Rodriguez leading the way with five.
On the mound, starting pitcher Anthony Vargas allowed four runs on two hits while striking out five in four innings of work. Mitch Norman followed up Vargas with three innings of relief work.
With the win, Santa Barbara is now one of the final six teams in the PONY Baseball Regional Tournament.
The Santa Barbara 12U All-Stars consist of Diego Vazquez, Diego Anis, Seth Kirkpatrick, Mitch Norman, Garrison Goldberg, Gabe Rodriquez, Anthony Venegas, Christian Martinez, Jacob Arias and Ethan Mendez. The coaches are Gary Goldberg, Frank Mendez and Ruben Venegas.
