UC Santa Barbara is including a canned food drive with this week’s Santa Barbara Beach Classic men’s basketball tournament.
Every fan who donates a can of food will receive free admission to the Gauchos’ 6 p.m. game on Monday against Hampton University of Virginia and their 7 p.m. contest on Wednesday against North Alabama.
“Our goal is to have the biggest food drive in Santa Barbara history,” Gaucho coach Joe Pasternack said.
Every fan attendance will also receive a free coupon from Woodstock’s Pizza.
UCSB (2-1) will attempt to rebound from Friday’s 63-54 defeat at Northern Arizona.
Hampton (1-2) will also face North Alabama (3-1) in tournament play at the Thunderdome on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
The Gauchos are looking to find their shooting eye after having made just 39.5% of their attempts overall and 28.1% from the three-point line in their first three games. They are also averaging more turnovers per game (13.3) than assists (12.0).
“We’re going back to the drawing board, watching a lot of film and preparing for this game on Monday,” Pasternack said.
