A five-goal outburst from George Marin and a dominant defensive effort powered Cate boys soccer to a 9-0 victory over Coast Union on Saturday at Meldman Field in Carpinteria.

The Rams got out to a strong start thanks to Marin, who scored goals in the eighth and 37th minutes to give his team a 2-0 lead heading into halftime.

Marin continued to roll in the second half with goals in the 45th, 46th and 52nd minutes to balloon the lead out to 5-0.

Cate kept its foot on the gas pedal as Dimash Anuarbek and Quincy Thorne each scored, while Charlie Dorion rounded out the scoring with two goals of his own.

“The first and second halves were night and day,” Cate head coach Jorge Reynoso said. “Our senior captains really stepped up and led our young team today. We are still missing several key players to injury, but we are slowly starting to gel as a unit.”

The Rams (2-0) will be on the road against Oaks Christian on Tuesday.
