The public is invited to learn more about the U.S. Highway 101/135 Bridge Replacement Project in Los Alamos at a 6-9 p.m.  meeting Wednesday, Oct. 2, at Los Alamos Valley Men’s Club, 429 Leslie St., Los Alamos.

The project proposes to replace the Hwy. 101 overcrossing in Los Alamos with a single span and will include removal of the existing columns.

It will include new bridge rails, metal beam guardrail, and inside/outside shoulder rumble strips along the 101 between the on/off ramps.

Community members have new sidewalks under Hwy. 101 from Los Alamos Mobile Home Park to the intersection of Bell and Main streets. These pedestrian improvements will include safety railing, landscaping and other aesthetic treatments.

Caltrans staff will be at the meeting to answer questions and participate in a presentation about the project.

Construction on the estimated $14 million project is expected to begin in late 2020, weather permitting. Construction will include a traffic switch on Hwy. 101 while each bridge is removed.
