The Cate girls celebrated Senior Night Monday, and the seniors went on to shine in a 64-10 Frontier League win over La Reina to close out the league season.

“The Rams came ready to play and they did not disappoint with an 18-0 first quarter, led by our five remarkable seniors Nicole Teh, Desi Flores, Talia Tom, Mary Foster, and Kendall Thorne,” Cate coach Laura Moore.

Foster, Flores, and Thorne led all scorers with 10 points each, while Teh contributed eight. The team’s seniors scored 40 of the 64 total points, contributed rebounds and forced many turnovers.

“They shined both individually and collectively, making each other and their teammates better,” Moore said. “Thorne and Foster both had career-first double-doubles with points and rebounds while Flores had to have had 10 steals and deflections combined.”

The Rams also benefitted from balanced scoring from junior Riley Pan, sophomore Sophia Ospina, and freshman Emerson Evans, who each added six points. Four other players scored points.

“We are so proud of our seniors, as their successes tonight reflect the hard work they have put in over the last four years,” Moore said.

Cate returns to action Tuesday night to host crosstown rival Carpinteria at 5:30 p.m.

Fillmore 37, Carpinteria 24

The Carpinteria girls ran into a motivated and focused Fillmore squad Monday, coming away with a 37-24 Citrus Coast League loss.

“We did not approach the game with the proper frame of mind to match their energy and excitement,” Warriors coach Henry Gonzalez said. “We had been averaging 44 plus points a game.

“Our defense and rebounding was adequate but gave up too many second and third scoring opportunities. We played hard but our focus and execution has to match the effort to be successful in the win column.”

The Warriors, 5-6 in CCL play and 11-12 overall, are still in the hunt for a playoff spot, and close the CCL season Wednesday at home against Malibu, game time at 6 p.m.

Before that, Carpinteria plays at Cate on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

Santa Ynez 44, Templeton 42

Santa Ynez’s Helina Pecile had a double-double with 12 points and 16 rebounds and added five blocks, four steals and three assists in an Ocean League win over Templeton Monday.

Kylie LaPointe added 11 points, seven steals and three assists, and Rylan Agin and Jadyn Gardner scored eight points apiece. Agin added four rebounds and three assists and Gardner four rebounds.
