Dos Pueblos girls basketball took down Brea Olinda by a score of 55-31 in the SoCal Classic on Monday.

The Chargers dominated the early stages of the game thanks in part to 10 first-quarter points from Asha Nayak. Kindah Ahmad-Reda also had eight points in the quarter to take a 22-4 lead.

That momentum carried over to the second quarter as Dos Pueblos once again had control on both ends of the court. Penelope Frazer chipped in six points in the second to go up 37-7 by halftime.

Brea Olinda outscored the Chargers in the third quarter, but Dos Pueblos remained in the lead and held it for the rest of the game for the win.

Ahmad-Reda had a big night for the Chargers with 14 points, 11 rebounds and five steals. Carly Letendre also had 14 points and five steals for Dos Pueblos.

The Chargers (8-8, 2-1 Channel League) will take on Glen Wilson on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. to round out the SoCal Classic.

Bishop Diego 43, Southlands Christian 11

A dominant defensive effort powered the Cardinals to a win in the first game of the Avalon Basketball Classic on Monday.

Eden Wynne led Bishop Diego with 13 points, while Alyssa Chrestenson ended the night with nine points. Meanwhile, Jaymi Coronado and Luz Castro made strong impacts on defense.

“We started off slow in the first quarter but picked things up in the second and third quarters,” Bishop Diego head coach Jeff Burich said. “Our shots weren’t falling, but we kept moving the ball and got good looks.”

The Cardinals (10-2) will take on Pacifica Christian and San Marino on Tuesday.
