A dominant first quarter powered Dos Pueblos girls basketball to a 50-39 victory over Pacifica on Saturday in Oxnard.

The Chargers came out of the gates locked in on both ends, racing out to a 22-3 advantage after one quarter of play.

San Marcos 56, Buena 25

The Royals’ defense led the charge in a Channel League win over the Bulldogs on Saturday inside the Thunderhut.

Buena began the game on a 7-0 run, but San Marcos responded and held its visitors to just 16 points for the rest of the game to earn the win.

“Our team defense has been solid in the second round of league,” San Marcos head coach Devin Uyesaka said. “Really proud of our girls making adjustments and getting better defensively.

“We also were doing a better job executing our offense to get good looks. The spacing was better.”

Jada Ahmad dropped a game-high 20 points for the Royals, while Izzy Schow contributed 12 points.

The Royals (16-7, 9-4 Channel League) will be on the road against Pacifica for their regular-season finale on Tuesday.

Santa Barbara High 56, Santa Clara 20

Shea Gannon’s monster double-double lifted the Dons to a non-league win over Santa Clara on Saturday.

Gannon dominated in the paint with 31 points and 15 rebounds to go along with five steals.

“Shea played an excellent all-around game on both ends of the court,” Santa Barbara High head coach Andrew Butcher said. “She seems to get stronger as the game goes along. She also benefited from some very nice feeds from her teammates so that was exciting to see.”

Savannah Margoles also made an impact on the inside with 10 rebounds, while Kendall Dowdy tallied nine points and eight rebounds.

“Kendall is becoming an excellent shooter and continues to find high percentage shots,” Butcher said.

The Dons will end their Channel League schedule on the road against Rio Mesa on Tuesday.

St. Bonaventure 58, Bishop Diego 29

The Cardinals fell behind in the first half and couldn’t recover in a loss to the Seraphs in their Tri-Valley League finale on Saturday inside the Brick House.

St. Bonaventure pulled away for good in the second quarter when it outscored Bishop Diego 20-5.

“The team continued to battle and I was proud of the effort,” Bishop Diego head coach Jeff Burich said. “St. Bonaventure is #34 in the Southern Section for a reason. I know we could have executed our offense a little better, but they did a good job of taking us out of our rhythm.

“Defensively, I thought we made them work, but a few times, offensive mistakes led to easy baskets for them. “

Eden Wynne finished as the top scorer for the Cardinals with 11 points.

Bishop Diego (21-4, 6-2 Tri-Valley League) finished second in the league and will cap off the regular season on the road against Del Sol on Tuesday.
