San Marcos girls beach volleyball continued its undefeated start to Channel League play with a 5-0 sweep of Oxnard on Monday.
The Royals (11-1, 4-0 Channel League) will now host crosstown rivals Dos Pueblos and Santa Barbara on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively. First serve is set for 3 p.m. on both days.
As for Monday’s matchup, No. 1 duo Josie Gamberdella and Cora Loomer pulled out a 21-19 win in the first set before winning the second 21-0 with Gamberdella going perfect on the service line.
Sam Fallon and Evyn Miller continued the winning ways at court two with a pair of 21-12 victories.
At the threes, Lila Westmacott and Isla McClintock came out on top in straight sets, 21-14, 21-11.
“Westmacott provided some strong offense and McClintock seemed to be all over the court,” San Marcos head coach Tim Loomer said.
The No. 4 duo of Malia Hetrick and Kelsie Rowe (21-10, 21-7) and the No. 5 pairing of Kelsie Helton and Rio Chesluk (21-13, 21-13) capped off the sweep for the Royals.
Santa Ynez 4, Santa Barbara 1
The Dons dropped a non-league matchup with Santa Ynez, 4-1, on Monday afternoon in Santa Ynez.
“As always, Santa Ynez is a consistent and scrappy program and they played very well in the wind,” Santa Barbara head coach Kristin Hempy said. “We had a few chances with our two matches that went to three, but unfortunately we just weren’t able to capitalize and so we walked away losing 1-4 instead of winning 3-2.”
The Dons’ lone win came at the No. 3 court where Stella Peus and Lauren McFadden earned a two-set sweep, 21-12, 21-14.
“[Peus and McFadden] were strong and consistent on their serving and offense for us today,” Hempy said.
The No. 1 duo of Lola Heckman and Kira Elliot (21-23, 21-14, 11-15) and the No. 5 pairing of Madi Priess and Gabby Cajuste (20-22, 22-20, 17-19) fell in close three-set matchups for the Dons.
Santa Barbara High will host Oxnard at East Beach on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
