Dos Pueblos girls lacrosse pulled away in the second half to earn an 18-6 crosstown rivalry win over Santa Barbara on Tuesday at Peabody Stadium.
The game marked the beginning of Channel League action for the Chargers while the Dons dropped to 0-2 in league play.
Dos Pueblos started fast, jumping out to a 5-1 lead after the first quarter. However, Santa Barbara High responded and cut the deficit down to 7-4 by halftime.
The Charger defense stepped up in the second half, holding the Dons to just two goals. Meanwhile, the Dos Pueblos offense poured on 11 goals to pull away for the lopsided victory.
“Credit to Santa Barbara and their strong effort in keeping the game close in the first half, but our team was determined to have a strong second half,” Dos Pueblos head coach Dan Feldhaus said.
Senior Reagan Arnold led all scorers with six goals, including the 100th of her high school career.
“Scoring 100 goals is a very special accomplishment and we are all so happy for Reagan,” Feldhaus said. “She is dedicated and always puts the work in to make herself and our team better.”
It was a balanced attack for the Chargers, who had nine different players find the back of the cage. Linnea Clapinsky tallied three goals while both Eloise Shea and Sophie Dent scored twice. Defensively, Stella Lawler collected six saves.
San Marcos 12, Nordhoff 0
The Royals opened up their Channel League schedule with a rout of Nordhoff on Tuesday in Ojai.
San Marcos outscored Nordhoff 6-0 in each half while playing a methodical style of offense en route to the win. All but one of the team’s goals came off an assist while nine of 12 players collected a goal or assist.
“I like the 12-0 better than I would like an 18-6 result in this situation,” San Marcos head coach Paul Ramsey said. “It shows the control we had over the outcome.”
Liv Plourde and Gigi Mills each scored three goals while Sadi Adams and Victoria Aldana tallied three assists apiece. Plourde also had a pair of assists.
“I am proud of our composure and our willingness to find other scopes for success than feeling we need to run up the score to know we are good,” Ramsey said. “It takes a certain level of confidence and maturity.”
Defensively, Briar Sorenson and Carly Grant combined to earn the shutout victory.
San Marcos (7-2, 1-0 Channel League) will host Santa Barbara High on Thursday at 6 p.m. at Warkentin Stadium.
