San Marcos girls lacrosse completed its undefeated Channel League season with an 18-8 victory over rival Santa Barbara High on Tuesday at Peabody Stadium.
The Royals end the regular season with a record of 17-2 and 10-0 against Channel League opponents.
“I’m really proud of the team for finishing strong and winning the league with everyone gunning for them for this season,” San Marcos head coach Paul Ramsey said. “It’s tough to repeat, but these girls made it look easy.”
San Marcos got out to a strong start, building up a 10-5 lead by halftime. From there, the Royals outscored the Dons 8-3 to pull away for the 10-goal win.
Sadi Adams netted her 100th career goal for San Marcos in a two-goal, three-assist performance.
“Sadi has become quite the playmaker along with her scoring,” Ramsey said. “It’s impressive she got a career mark like 100 goals while also assisting teammates three times.”
Lic Plourde led the Royals with seven goals while Victoria Aldana collected four goals and seven assists. Defensively, Carly Grant accumulated 12 saves in the cage.
As for the Dons, Katarina Olvera led the team with four goals and Emma Hall tallied two goals and one assist
“Hats off to their effort all night long including on the draw,” Ramsey said. “It started to get close at one point in the second quarter and Kata and Emma had a lot to do with that.”
The Royals will await their CIF-SS playoff pairings on Friday. The Dons end their season 6-8 overall and 3-7 in league play.
Cate 14, Thacher 4
The Rams capped off the regular season with a Senior Day win over Thacher on Tuesday in Carpinteria.
With the win, Cate finishes the year in second place in the Channel League with a 7-4 record to earn an automatic playoff bid.
“The win not only strengthens the team’s position in the Channel league and post-season play, but also sends a clear message—this team is built to win when it matters most,” Cate head coach Renee Mack said. “I was most impressed with the senior leadership today- they led with heart and grit.”
Sam Jimenez and Lilli Whelan set the tone early for the Rams, scoring back-to-back goals in the first three minutes of play. From there, Cate never gave up the lead en route to the win.
The defensive trio of Val Madriz, Lorelei Roof and Claire Bianchi led the charge to hold Thacher to four goals. Bianchi forced three turnovers on her own.
“This game meant a lot to the team,” Mack said. “We have been working hard on ground balls, completed passes and off-ball movement.
“We know what hard work means and we weren’t leaving without a win today. I could not be more excited for this group of girls as we head into the playoffs next week.”
Jimenez’s four goals led all players, while Lucy Guilbert-Neil tallied a hat trick. Ospina and Maia Holmes each had two goals with Ospina collecting two assists and Holmes ending with three.
Dos Pueblos 15, Nordhoff 4
The Chargers came away with a road win over Nordhoff in their regular-season finale on Tuesday.
Dos Pueblos got off to a bit of a slow start and led just 5-2 after the first quarter. However, the Chargers outscored Nordhoff 7-0 in the second to pull away for the 12-2 halftime lead and the eventual win.
Reagan Arnold netted four goals to lead the team while Sophie Dent, Chloe Gotsis and Linnea Clapinski scored three goals apiece. In the cage, Stella Lawler ended with five saves.
Dos Pueblos (9-9, 6-4 Channel League) will now look ahead to the CIF-SS playoffs next week.
