Carpinteria High girls tennis picked up its first win of the season with an 11-7 victory over Viewpoint on Thursday in Carpinteria.
“Overall, it was a good match for us, not so much with the win, but more for the chemistry we saw in doubles and the point construction we are starting to see in singles,” Carpinteria High head coach Charles Bryant said.
The duo of Caroline Cooney/Cailyn Gillen went a perfect 3-0 without dropping a game, while Sadie West/Emily Banks also captured three doubles victories. Naima Palacio/Yoselyn Aguirre rounded out the doubles points with one win.
In singles, Aubrey Alcaraz turned in a 2-1 performance and both Yaretzi Moctezuma and Ariana Cruz won one matchup.
Carpinteria High (1-1) will take on local rival Laguna Blanca on Tuesday in Santa Barbara.
Cate 12, Stockdale 6
The Rams began their season with a win over a strong Stockdale program on Thursday in Carpinteria.
“I’m so proud of the way my girls rose to the challenge of playing a team of this caliber so early in our season,” Cate head coach Trevor Thorpe said. “We haven’t had much time to sort out our lineup yet, but the girls came ready for battle today and we definitely put Stockdale on the back foot earlier.
“I thought my team showed a lot of poise and confidence throughout the day to not only come out swinging, but maintain a lead against a Stockdale team that definitely improved throughout.”
The Cate duo of Lisa Hasebe/Elly Edwards went undefeated at 3-0 on the day, while Chelsea Newlove/Gwendi Rogers and Claire Tang/Edie Abbott each went 2-1.
Meanwhile, Ivy Huang earned a trio of singles victories and Jade Wang chipped in two wins to round out the team’s season-opening victory.
The Rams will host Dos Pueblos on Tuesday for a local matchup.
Laguna Blanca 17, Orcutt Academy 1
The Owls earned a lopsided victory over Orcutt Academy on Thursday in Santa Barbara.
“The entire team is falling into a good rhythm,” Laguna Blanca head coach Jeff Thompson said. “I’m especially proud of Stella Frank. She brought so much confidence and composure to her clean three-match sweep in singles today. Great things ahead for her.”
