Cate girls tennis dominated its way to a 16-2 rivalry win over Laguna Blanca to improve to 12-0 on the season on Tuesday in Hope Ranch.
Ivy Huang of the Rams cruised through singles play, going 3-0 and dropping just one game along the way. Meanwhile, Elly Edwards went 2-1 and both Margo Nicholas and Evita Ferron secured one win.
In doubles, Lisa Hasebe/Chelsea Newlove picked up three dominant wins, while Claire Tang paired with Kiki Chang for two 6-0 wins and came together with Riya Mitera for a 6-4 victory.
Edie Abbott, Elizabeth Jayich, Gwendi Rogers and Jade Wang all contributed for the Rams going 3-0 at doubles line one.
Meanwhile, Ella Osley accounted for both of the Laguna Blanca points with a pair of singles victories.
“The rest of the team did a great job staying positive and continuing to fight even though they were facing a level unlike any they’ve seen all season,” Laguna Blanca head coach Jeff Thompson said. “Big kudos to the Cate team. They are a real class act in how they perform and in the respect they show their opponents.”
Cate will host Thacher on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. for another league matchup.
Carpinteria High 14, Hueneme 4
The Warriors celebrated Senior Day with a Citrus Coast League win over Hueneme on Tuesday in Carpinteria.
“Our seniors have given so much to our program. Nathalie Hernandez, Sadie West and Yaretzi Moctezuma are going to be missed next year. They bring lots of laughs and smiles to the courts along with a strong desire to compete,” Carpinteria High head coach Charles Bryant said.
Aubrey Alcaraz turned in a 3-0 performance in singles to lead the Warriors, while Hernandez went 2-1 and Ariana Cruz won her lone set of the day.
West and Cailyn Gillen paired up for a 2-0 doubles performance, while Emily Banks/Caroline Cooney also went 2-0. Moctezuma and Yoselyn Aguirre also chipped in a doubles victory.
“The Vikings are always a tough squad to play. They do an excellent job of keeping the points going and making us come up with better and better shots to beat them,” Bryant said.
“We have to stay disciplined and bide our time on many points in an effort to get them out of position and put away one of the next few shots.”
Carpinteria High (9-5, 6-0 CCL) will take on Santa Paula on the road on Thursday.
