Laguna Blanca girls tennis defended its home courts with a 14-4 win over Villanova Prep on Thursday in Santa Barbara.
“It was an outstanding performance by all,” Laguna Blanca head coach Jeff Thompson said.
In singles action, Ella Osley went 3-0 for the Owls, Teddy Cronin secured a pair of victories and Taylor Adams earned her first singles victory.
Meanwhile, the Laguna Blanca pairings of Maddy Osley/Tatiana Taylor and Paisley Thomson/Abby Connor swept their matchups, and Helen Trogan/Arden Blagden went 2-0 in doubles play.
Cate 17, Thacher 1
The Rams remained undefeated in Tri-Valley League action with a convincing win over Thacher on Thursday.
Ivy Huang went 3-0 to lead the singles effort, while both Elizabeth Jayich and Jade Wang went 2-0. Evita Ferrone and Margo Nicholas each earned singles wins as well.
The Cate pairing of Lisa Hasebe/Kiki Chang won all three of its matches without dropping a single game. Elly Edwards paired with Chelsea Newlove and Rita Mitera for two wins before Mitera linked up with Claire Tang for a win.
Meanwhile, Edie Abbott and Gwendi Rogers went 2-1 in doubles play to round out Cate’s victory.
“Our doubles players especially are growing in confidence and looking for those opportunities to be aggressive at the net,” Cate head coach Trevor Thorpe said.
“I’m also pleased with the way the whole team is serving at this point in the season; it’s rare to see a double fault from our team, and when you do see it, it’s usually preceded or followed by an ace or unreturnable serve.”
The Rams (13-0) will host Laguna Blanca for the regular-season finale on Thursday.
Carpinteria High 14, Santa Paula 4
The Warriors earned a convincing road win over Santa Paula on a windy Thursday afternoon.
The Carpinteria High duos of Emily Banks/Aubrey Alcaraz and Nathalie Hernandez/Ariana Cruz each went 3-0, while Naima Palacio picked up one victory with Yaretzi Moctezuma and another with Sadie West.
In singles, Caroline Cooney cruised to a 3-0 performance without losing a single game. Cailyn Gillen picked up two wins of her own, and Yoselyn Aguirre’s single victory capped off the team’s scoring.
The Warriors (10-5, 7-0 Citrus Coast League) will be on the road against Thacher on Tuesday.
Dunn 14, Bishop Diego 4
The Cardinals rounded out their season with a road loss to Dunn on Thursday in Los Olivos.
The Bishop Diego duo of Victoria Heredia/Annabel Liu swept their three doubles matches, while Lizzy Schneider/Layla Hernandez tallied the other point with a 6-4 win.
“I am so proud of these six girls,” Bishop Diego head coach Peter Kirkwood said of his light roster this season. “We went into every match down 6-0 with no real chance to win, yet it didn’t dampen the enthusiasm for competing as a team. We were a small group with big hearts.
“The effort put forth each and every day was a tribute to their commitment and confidence in each other. I would also like to thank our athletic department and administration for keeping tennis going and growing the game. They never blinked an eye, they just said go do it.”
