San Marcos girls tennis traveled across town and took care of business with a 12-6 win over rival Santa Barbara High on Thursday.

The Royals took full control of the match in doubles play, where they picked up seven of the available nine points.

The No. 1 duo of Sabrina Rashti and Mya Shenoda led the charge with a 3-0 sweep, while Jacqui Wilson and Elana Rown came through with a pair of clutch victories.

“We saw our doubles work pay off today,” San Marcos head coach Emily Carver said. “We knew SB would be a tough opponent and very strong in singles, so our focus has been on getting doubles prepared to clinch some wins.”

In singles action, Santa Barbara High’s Nicole Buist continued her standout season with a trio of victories.

However, the Royals responded with victories from Kate Selby, Tate Jaeger and Leah Shenoda to round out the team’s scoring.

San Marcos and Santa Barbara High will both compete in the Santa Barbara Tennis Classic on Friday and Saturday.

Laguna Blanca 12, Villanova Prep 6

The Owls went on the road and escaped with a victory over Villanova Prep on Thursday in Ojai.

The top two doubles pairings of Paisley Thomson/Stella Frank and Maddy Osley/Tatiana Taylor turned in strong performances for Laguna Blanca, each going 3-0 on the day.

Meanwhile, the No. 3 duo of Dakota Risley and Sophia Probstel won their first game by a score of 6-2 before pulling out a tiebreaking comeback victory in their third match.

Carpinteria 16, Hueneme 2

The Warriors dominated their way to a Citrus Coast League win over Hueneme on Thursday.

“We had a lot of strong performances today and played really well against a team that always gives us some trouble,” Carpinteria High head coach Charles Bryant said. “I was very happy with our efforts and felt we prepared well for the Vikings.”

The Warrior duos of Charlotte Cooney/Caroline Cooney and Izzy Scott/Mina Handall each picked up 3-0 sweeps.

Meanwhile, Emily Banks/Cailyn Gillen went 2-0 on the day, and the final doubles point came on a win from Sadie West/Yaretzi Moctezuma.

In singles, both Abby Gobbell and Aubrey Alcaraz tallied a trio of wins, while Kacy Kramer picked up one win of her own.

“Overall, it was a strong performance by our girls,” Bryant said. “They knew Hueneme could be a tricky team to play, but we did a good job of managing our own shots and controlling what we could control.  I was proud of our efforts today.”

Carpinteria (9-1, 4-0 CCL) will host Fillmore on Tuesday.

Dos Pueblos 18, Buena 0

The Chargers improved their Channel League record to 4-0 with a sweep of the Bulldogs on Thursday, dropping just eight games along the way.

Isla Herrera swept her three singles matches without a game lost, while Zella Cassidy and Taylor Dannemiller each went 2-0. Ari Fisher and Aude Mares capped off the singles wins.

Sonia Flatham played alongside Jessica Hart and Devon Bliss to sweep the top doubles line. Meanwhile, Taylor Ofner paired up with Nikita Fisher and Amara Zumbroegel to take care of business on line two.

At line three, Nico Pfeiffer/Lauren Wirtz won two matches and Gigi Da Re/Autumn Warmerlan cleaned up the final win.
