San Marcos girls tennis battled to a 10-8 road win over Ventura High on Friday in Ventura.
The Royals’ Tate Jaeger continued her undefeated singles season with a trio of wins without dropping a single game. Meanwhile, Leah Shenoda and Fiona Weber each earned a singles victory.
The San Marcos duo of Myla Zeitsoff/Kaisa Taggart won all three of its matchups, while Keira Shaffer/Ashley Black went 2-1 on the day.
The Royals will host crosstown rival Santa Barbara High next Tuesday to round out Channel League play.
Laguna Blanca 9, Thacher 9 (LB wins 79-77)
The Owls outlasted Thacher for a league win on Thursday in Santa Barbara thanks to a two-game advantage in games won.
“This was by far our most exciting match of the season. Both teams were cheering on the last match tiebreaker as it finished in the dark,” Laguna Blanca head coach Jeff Thompson said.
Carpinteria High 16, Fillmore 2
The Warriors cruised to a Citrus Coast League win over the Flashes on Thursday in Carpinteria.
“I was happy with how both our singles and doubles lineups played today,” Carpinteria High head coach Charles Bryant said. “We’ve been trying out different doubles pairings lately and I was impressed with how they all seemed to mesh and play fluidly together.”
The Carpinteria High doubles attack swept its way through the match, with the pairings of Naima Palacio/Areli Reyes and Yoselyn Aguirre/Sarai Mota each going 3-0. Meanwhile, Nathalie Hernandez won two matches with Aubrey Alcaraz and one with Ariana Cruz.
In singles, both Cailyn Gillen and Caroline Cooney went undefeated and Emi Quintero rounded out the scoring with one win.
“Overall, I was very pleased with how we played today,” Bryant said. “The girls were focused from the start and that seemed to springboard us through the second and third rounds. We still have some kinks to work out but they are continually getting better and that is a great sign.”
The Warriors (8-5, 5-0 CCL) will host Hueneme on Tuesday.
