Bishop Diego girls volleyball rolled to a crosstown sweep of Laguna Blanca in a non-league matchup on Thursday in Hope Ranch.
The Cardinals were in control from start to finish against the shorthanded Owls, 25-14, 25-17, 25-14.

“The team is really starting to work together to play some high-level volleyball,” Bishop Diego team manager Ben Zoltoski said.
Sophie Otte had a big night on the outside for the Cardinals, totaling a match-high 11 kills to go along with five aces and six digs.
She was joined on the stat sheet by Natalie Chan, who collected eight digs, five aces and four kills.
Laguna Blanca was led offensively by Lauren Kenny and Greta Alldredge with seven and five kills, respectively.
Meanwhile, Ginger Finney ran an efficient 5-1 offense and played strong defense, totaling eight digs on the night.
“We played competitive volleyball tonight and battled for the whole match,” Laguna Blanca head coach Tanner Stevens said. “Our team competed at a high level with most of our girls playing in their first rivalry match of their careers in a fun environment.”
The Cardinals will be back in action on the road next Thursday against Heritage Christian.
Meanwhile, the Owls will take next week off for class trips before beginning league play on the road against Foothill Tech on Thursday, Sept. 11.
Dos Pueblos 3, Rio Mesa 2
A strong defensive effort helped the Chargers pull out a five-set win over the Spartans on Thursday in Oxnard, 25-19, 25-14, 23-25, 19-25, 15-12.
Addie Low had a big night on the outside and defensively, tallying 13 kills and 27 digs. Allie Ben Yaacov also put together a double-double with 13 digs and 10 assists.
Charlie Welch (20 digs, 5 kills, 4 aces) and Faith Harrison (7 kills, 7 digs, 2 blocks) each filled up the stat sheet for the Chargers, while Athena Bardakos hammered down eight kills.
Sammy Anderson distributed the offense well to the tune of 21 assists, and Moana Martinez added in 19 digs to round out a stellar defensive showing.
Dos Pueblos (1-8, 1-0) will stay on the road against Pacifica on Tuesday.
San Marcos 3, Oxnard 0
The Royals opened the Channel League schedule with a three-set sweep of Oxnard on Thursday inside the Thunderhut, 25-8, 25-15, 25-13.
San Marcos (3-1, 1-0 Channel League) is looking to repeat as league champions for the 2025 season with a team made up of all seniors.
Gracie Stone led the Royals’ offense with 12 kills, while Jordan Schmoller added six kills and two blocks at the net.
Defensively, Isla McClintock paced the team with 11 digs to go along with four aces. Charlotte Hastings chipped in seven digs, while Lila Westmacott ended the night with six digs and 24 assists.

“[McClintock] played really well. She played libero for us and came in and passed and dug a lot of balls, which was great,” San Marcos head coach Erica Downing said. “Kelsey Helton played great for us in the middle. She had a bunch of soft blocks that slowed down the ball for us, which put us into transition.”
The Royals will hit the road for a league matchup with Buena on Tuesday in Ventura at 6:30 p.m.
Santa Barbara 3, Buena 0
The Dons earned a home sweep of their own to begin league play against the Bulldogs inside J.R. Richards Gym, 25-16, 25-21, 25-13.
“We had good energy and all-around play, giving us great momentum heading into league,” Santa Barbara High head coach Kristin Hempy said.
The trio of Blake Saunders (13), Kira Elliot (11) and Lola Heckman (10) led the charge for the Dons, as they all registered double-digit kills in the win. Jaqueline Durling chipped in eight of her own.
Meanwhile, Jules Horton totaled 43 assists while facilitating the offense and Paylin Marcillac shined on the defensive end with 16 digs.
“We had a consistent all-around night. Jules was able to spread the ball around and get our hitters lots of action,” Hempy said. “[Saunders, Elliot, Heckman and Durling] looked really strong up front and Paylin was steady and running the show in the back row.”
Santa Barbara High (3-4, 1-0) will host Ventura on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
Cabrillo 3, Carpinteria 1
The Warriors dropped a four-set match with Cabrillo on Thursday in Carpinteria, 6-25, 25-22, 22-25, 7-25.
“We had a very slow start, but I was proud of how we adapted and were able to take a set,” Carpinteria High coach Richie Quitoriano said. “Cabrillo’s serving pressure really put us on our heels at times, but we’re starting to find our stride, and I thought we had a great defensive outing overall.”
Evelyn Aviles recorded a double-double with 11 digs and 11 assists, while Isla Moore was strong at the net with six blocks and a pair of kills.
Leona McClellan and Yazmin Herrera shared the team-high in kills with five apiece, and Vicky Martinez picked up 13 digs.
“We’re making good strides in all areas of the game — serving, defense, and controlling our offense,” Quitoriano said. “I like the progress we’re making, and I’m excited to see how we continue to grow.”
The Warriors will begin league play on Tuesday at home against Santa Paula.
