Dos Pueblos girls volleyball cruised to a three-set sweep of Pacifica on Tuesday in Oxnard, 25-10, 25-19, 25-20.

After dropping their first eight non-league matches of the season, the Chargers are now 2-0 to begin Channel League play.

Addie Low’s 11 kills led the way for Dos Pueblos, and she also chipped in five digs and two blocks. Charlize Welch was all over the court in the win, tallying 11 digs, five kills, two blocks and two aces.

Defensively, Maggie Squires and Moana Martinez stepped up with 11 and nine digs, respectively. Sammy Anderson totaled 13 assists and picked up three kills of her own.

The Chargers will host crosstown rival San Marcos on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. inside Sovine Gym.

San Marcos 3, Buena 1

The Royals shook off a slow start to secure a four-set win over the Bulldogs on Tuesday in Ventura, 29-31, 25-8, 25-11, 25-16.

“We came out pretty flat. Buena played really scrappy and gave everything they could and we struggled passing and couldn’t get into any kind of rhythm,” San Marcos head coach Erica Downing said.

“I was really proud of them for turning around in game two and we came out playing our kind of volleyball.”

Samantha Fallon had a strong night for the Royals, finishing with 11 kills and seven aces. At the service line, she committed just one error out of her 22 serves to help her team maintain momentum late in the match.

“[Fallon] was such a force for us from the service line,” Downing said. “She is such a good server and such a good leader for us, so I’m thrilled that she had such a good game from the service line.”

Meanwhile, Cora Loomer led the team with 15 kills and chipped in nine digs. Gracie Stone reached double digits with her 11 kills, and Charlotte Hastings added on nine kills and seven digs.

Lila Westmacott facilitated the offensive attack and recorded 39 assists, while Isla McClintock turned in 11 digs on the defensive end.

Ventura 3, Santa Barbara High 0

The Dons fell to the Cougars in straight sets in Ventura on Tuesday, 19-25, 24-26, 23-25.

“Though there were bright spots, we struggled with consistent passing and serving and couldn’t quite finish in each set,” Santa Barbara High head coach Kristin Hempy said. “Lola (Heckman) and Blake (Saunders) were aggressive up front, and Stella Peus came in as DS back row and did a nice job.”

Heckman paced the Dons’ offense with 12 kills, while Saunders wasn’t far behind with 11 of her own.

Jules Horton spread the ball around to the tune of 31 assists to go along with eight digs, and Paylin Marcillac collected 13 digs. Grace Costner and Peus ended the night with 11 aces and five digs, respectively

Santa Barbara High will look to bounce back at home against Rio Mesa on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

Santa Paula 3, Carpinteria 1

The Warriors dropped their Citrus Coast League opener at home to the Cardinals on Tuesday, 20-25, 25-18, 13-25, 23-25.

“We came out strong in the first set, but Santa Paula was able to adapt and take the next three,” Carpinteria High coach Richard Quitoriano said.. “It was a tough loss to take, and I don’t think we played our best.

“But this is part of our growth — learning to build a strong mental fortitude to compete through the ups and downs of a match.”

Leona McClellan shined for the Warriors with 18 digs, seven kills and four assists, while Isla Moore also contributed seven kills of her own.

Samantha Sanchez was a force defensively with 16 digs, and Evelyn Aviles totaled 14 assists.
