Laguna Blanca girls volleyball went on the road and came out with a four-set win over Foothill Tech in the Frontier League opener on Thursday in Ventura.
The Owls dropped set two but responded with back-to-back set wins to secure the overall victory, 25-23, 22-25, 25-14, 25-23.
“We played our best match of the season to open league, which is a testament to the work these girls have been putting in the last few weeks,” Laguna Blanca head coach Tanner Stevens said. “We battled throughout the entire match in a fun and hot environment and came up with big plays when we needed them the most.”
Sage Holcombe’s 16 kills led the way for the Owl offense, while Ginger Finney spread around the attack to the tune of 41 assists.
On the defensive side, Lolayna Redmond collected 18 digs and Lila Foster was all over the court making impact plays. Redmond also had a strong night passing the ball.
Buena 3, Dos Pueblos 1
The Chargers dropped their Channel League match with the Bulldogs on Thursday in Ventura, 24-26, 17-25, 25-5, 18-25.
Addie Low contributed in all facets of the game, tallying 10 kills and 19 digs. Charlize Welch put together a strong all-around performance as well with 20 digs, seven kills and three aces.
The middle duo of Faith Harrison and Athena Bardakos made an impact in the middle with nine kills apiece. Harrison chipped in three aces, while Bardakos ended the night with two blocks.
“I really want to celebrate the exceptional play of our middles, Faith and Athena,” Dos Pueblos head coach Megan O’Carroll said. “The two of them had an assignment tonight and stuck to the plan. They were both lethal and unstoppable out.”
Meanwhile, Sammy Anderson filled up the stat sheet with 32 assists, seven digs, three kills, two aces and two blocks in the loss for the Chargers (2-11, 2-3 Channel League).
Channel Islands 3, Carpinteria 2
The Warriors fell in five sets to Channel Islands on Thursday in Carpinteria, 25-20, 12-25, 25-21, 16-25, 10-25.
“That was a tough match to lose at home, especially because it was such a close one,” Caprinteria head coach Richard Quitoriano said. “I thought we competed hard and showed resilience throughout the night.”
Evelyn Aviles was all over the court for the Warriors with 18 assists, 18 digs, seven kills and an ace. At the net, Isla Moore recorded nine kills and three digs.
Samantha Sanchez led the defense with 22 kills to go along with four kills, while Leona McClellan put up 15 assists, 10 digs and four kills.
Kelly Dominguez rounded out the Carpinteria standouts with six kills, four aces and 19 digs.
