Santa Barbara High girls volleyball defended its home court with a four-set victory over Oxnard on Tuesday night inside J.R. Richards Gym.
The Dons dropped a tight second set before taking care of business in the third and fourth, 25-13, 26-28, 25-16, 25-16.
“Oxnard was a scrappy opponent and we suffered a few error runs, but we gritted it out and were able to put the ball away and get things done,” Santa Barbara High head coach Kristin Hempy said.
Blake Saunders led the offensive attack with 15 kills, while Kira Elliot hammered down 10 and Lola Heckman ended the night with nine of her own.
Stella Peus was all over the court in the win, collecting 12 assists, three digs and three aces. Jules Horton had a strong night from the setter position with 33 assists, while Paylin Marcillac recorded 14 digs and four aces.
“Shoutout to Stella Peus, for being our all-around utility player tonight – setting, serving, playing defense, hitting, blocking. She did a great job,” Hempy said. “Blake (Saunders) also had a nice offensive night. When she gets hungry and wants the ball, it’s exciting to watch.”
The Dons (3-1 Channel League) will now host crosstown rival San Marcos on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. inside J.R. Richards Gym.
San Marcos 3, Rio Mesa 0
The Royals rolled to a sweep of the Spartans on Tuesday inside the Thunderhut, 25-8, 25-6, 25-7.
“Everybody got a chance to play tonight,” San Marcos head coach Erica Downing said. “We tried some different lineups and we really were able to establish our middles.”
Charlotte Hastings played two of the three sets and collected 13 kills with just one error.
Meanwhile, Jeanie Johnson and Lila Westmacott turned in strong performances from the service line, with Johnson tallying four aces on 18 attempts.
The Royals (4-0 Channel League) will look to remain undefeated in Channel League play as they head across town to face off against Santa Barbara High.
Ventura 3, Dos Pueblos 0
The Chargers fell on the road to the Cougars on Tuesday in Ventura, 13-25, 13-25, 20-25.
Moana Martinez’s 10 kills led Dos Pueblos, while Addie Low chipped in six kills and nine digs.
Sammy Anderson totaled 14 assists to pace the Chargers, and both Charlize Welch and Maggie Squires tallied four kills. Welch also added six digs.
Dos Pueblos is now 2-2 in league play and will host Buena on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
