Carpinteria High girls water polo cruised to a 13-2 victory over Newbury Park High on Wednesday in Newbury Park.
“We saw that Newbury had gained a lot of new players and went into the game with the goal of getting everyone good experience in different situations,” Carpinteria High head coach Russell Russo said.
“The girls made considerable gains in making strong connections with the younger players as they learned the routes.”
The Warriors came out of the gates firing, scoring twice in the first two minutes and pulling away for a 9-0 lead by the end of the opening quarter.
From there, Carpinteria High continued to dominate on both ends of the pool en route to the win.
The tandem of Hazel Dugré, Lucia Smith, Holiday Smith and Mina Handall combined for seven goals, while Madison Lee, Lucy Moore and Dugré totaled five steals.
In the cage, Gwen Postma anchored the defensive effort with six blocks and a steal.
Santa Barbara High 18, Thousand Oaks 10
The Dons’ offense exploded for a big win over the Lancers on Wednesday in Santa Barbara.
“I am really proud of the girls for taking the lessons we learned in our loss on Tuesday and applying them to our convincing win today,” Santa Barbara High head coach Mark Walsh said.
Santa Barbara got out to a strong start and led 7-2 in the second, but Thousand Oaks responded with a 5-0 run to tie the game up at 7-7 at halftime.
The Dons punched back in the third with six goals and a strong defensive showing to take a 13-9 lead into the fourth quarter.
The Santa Barbara High offense continued to roll with five more goals in the fourth to pull away for the 18-10 win.
Freshman Violette Bailey filled up the stat sheet with six goals, three assists and three exclusions earned. Meanwhile, Yesenia Dunn, Luna Morancey and Jules Horton all scored three times.
Rose Nelley added one goal and dished out a game-high seven assists in the win.
Santa Barbara HIgh will compete in the Calabasas Tournament on Friday.
