San Marcos girls water polo won its second game in as many days with a 16-4 victory over Ventura High on Tuesday in Ventura.
“I’m proud of our team’s improvement,” San Marcos head coach Chuckie Roth said. “We are improving every day and learning a lot of new things. Looking forward to a great season ahead.”
The Royals got out to a strong start thanks to Charlotte Raisin, who poured in three goals to begin the game and grab a 3-0 advantage.
Sophie Yonker then scored twice, while Jade Pattison and McKenna Stuart each scored one goal to build up a 7-0 lead heading into the second. The defensive dominance continued, as the lead stood at 9-0 by halftime.
After both teams scored twice in the third quarter, the Royals erupted for five goals in the fourth, including two from Raisin, to pull away for the 16-4 win.
San Marcos (2-0) will take on Rio Mesa on Thursday at 3:15 p.m. in Oxnard.
Carpinteria High 16, Foothill Tech 1
The Warriors began their season with a dominant rout of Foothill Tech on Tuesday in Carpinteria.
“Our girls showcased some of their defensive capabilities in this opening game and perimeter defense shined the brightest,” Carpinteria High head coach Russell Russo said. “This group of girls has lots of talent; we’ll just need to bring that same intensity for our upcoming games.”
The Warrior offensive attack was led by the trio of Madison Lee, Holliday Smith and Hazel Dugre, who combined for 13 goals and four assists.
On the defensive end, Gwen Postma collected five saves and one steal in the cage while Lucia Smith and Mina Handall came together for five total steals.
Carpinteria High will take on Newbury Park on the road on Wednesday at 4:15 p.m.
