Carpinteria High

The Warriors went 1-2 on the weekend to earn sixth place at the fourth annual Ventura Invitational on Saturday in Ventura.

“They played their hearts out,” Carpinteria High head coach Russell Russo said. “We were very proud of how they stuck with it. They didn’t give up, and competed to the fullest, even when we were facing teams that are typically powerhouse programs.”

The Warrior trio of Madison Lee, Hazel Dugre and Holiday Smith led the offensive effort with 19 combined goals across the three games played.

Meanwhile, Dugre, Lucia Smith and Mina Handall all had strong defensive showings with several steals and turnovers in clutch moments.

In the cage, Gwen Postma provided a steady presence as the anchor of the defense.

“The weekend offered meaningful opportunities for growth,” Russo said. “While it wasn’t the outcome we expected, it was a good learning experience for everyone. With our full squad returning after break, we will see a lot of gains & development from this weekend.”

Carpinteria High will host Thousand Oaks for its next matchup on Tuesday, Dec. 2.
