Santa Barbara High girls water polo defended its home pool with a 14-5 win over Carpinteria High on Friday in Santa Barbara.
Jules Horton made an impact on both ends for the Dons, tallying five goals, three assists and four steals. Rose Nelley closely followed with four goals and also shined on the defensive end.
Luna Morancey and Violette Bailey each had two goals and three steals, while Kana Wolfe and Yesenia Dunn scored one goal apiece. Sasha Jones collected five saves in the cage.
The Warriors got impressive goals from Penny Ornelas and Hazel Dugre, while Lucy Moore and Lucia Smith anchored the defensive end. Goalie Gwen Postma also had a strong game with nine blocks and two steals.
“Our girls had found some defensive opportunities to stifle SB’s offense early on, but too many balls landed in center without a fast enough response,” Carpinteria High coach Russell Russo said. “We held the line on exclusions in the third; we were better about adapting after each quarter and having little wins.”
Santa Barbara High (12-1) will be on the road against crosstown rival San Marcos on Tuesday. Carpinteria High will take the rest of the year off before returning on Thursday, Jan. 8.
