Lori Pearce has been named board president at Girls Inc. of Carpinteria. Pearce is the director of information technology and business operations at NuSil Technology.

The nonprofit Girls Inc. has also appointed three new members: Caroline Alarcon, Peter Dugré and Angelina Lane.

“We are delighted to welcome Lori as our new board president, along with a talented group of new members who are committed to advancing the mission of Girls Inc. in our community,” said Jamie Collins, executive director of Girls Inc. of Carpinteria.

“As we work through these challenging times, and as we look ahead to our 50th anniversary next year, the support and diverse skillset of our Board of Trustees continues to be a tremendous asset to our organization,” Collins said. “I look forward to what’s ahead and working together to further our important work for local girls.”

Pearce has served on the Girls Inc. of Carpinteria board for two years. During her tenure at NuSil Technology, a global specialty silicone manufacture, she has cultivated an information technology and support department and successfully developed it into a multi-national, mature operation.

Under her leadership, Pearce’s team has developed a data center and communication infrastructure that supports multiple countries and states.

Pearce holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Indiana University East and an associate degree in computer science from Santa Barbara City College.

She is an active volunteer in the community with local schools and organizations including Carpinteria Valley Girls Softball and the Girl Scouts; she previously served on the Carpinteria Chamber of Commerce’s Board of Directors.

“I believe wholeheartedly in the mission and values of Girls Inc. and am honored to have been appointed president of the Board of Trustees,” said Pearce. “This is a significant moment in the almost 50-year history of the organization.

“From shifting programming and supporting our girls through a global pandemic, to meeting the financial challenges that all nonprofits are currently facing, I am grateful to have Jamie as our executive director, along with her dedicated staff. With them in our corner, I know we will continue to inspire strong, smart and bold girls.”

Alarcon is the owner of Reliant Notary Services in Carpinteria. As a small-business owner, Alarcon understands and values the importance of community and believes in giving back.

She also brings prior experience in the Public Health Department and nonprofit sector, and has worked in leadership roles for areas including public engagement, fiscal responsibility, strategic planning, and has done policy writing for other governmental agencies.

Alarcon currently serves on the boards of the Carpinteria Chamber of Commerce and the Latina Professional Alliance. She believes in the importance of investing in the community’s youth.

Dugré is co-owner of Two Trumpets Communications, a Carpinteria-based agency specializing in outreach for organizations. Before that, he spent 10 years as a journalist, editor and director of print publications in the local media market. He specializes in messaging through written materials, long-term publicity strategies and media relations.
 
Dugré graduated with honors from UCSB with a degree in English literature. He serves on the board of Parents for Carpinteria Family School and helped organize Kinderkirk Preschool’s annual auction for five years. He lives in La Conchita.

Lane is an attorney and partner at Lynn & O’Brien, LLP, where her focus has been in civil litigation and plaintiff cases for injury, including civil rights actions, appellate work and criminal law in both the state and federal courts.

Lane has worked extensively with the California Appellate Project, undertaking criminal appeals to rectify potential abuses within the court system. She previously worked with the Santa Barbara District Attorney’s office as a deputy district attorney in Santa Maria.

Lane holds a juris doctor degree from Chapman University and a bachelor’s degree in sociology and criminal justice from Cal State Long Beach.

A Southern California native who was born in Santa Barbara with longtime family roots in the community, Lane lives in Carpinteria. She credits her mother and grandmothers for being role models of independent, strong women in her life, showing her that with hard work and determination, anything is possible.
 
Other new officers to Girls Inc. of Carpinteria’s Board of Trustees include Jacquelyn Pawela-Crew, vice president; Katie Convoy, secretary; and John Franklin, treasurer.
