Community members can help Explore Ecology give a little TLC to the local coastline this summer at the August Beach Cleanup, 10 a.m.-noon Sunday, Aug. 10 at Arroyo Burro Beach.
Participants can spend the morning outdoors, picking up everything from chip bags and cigarette butts to Styrofoam and plastic bits, helping to protect marine life and keeping microplastics out of the ocean.
Cleanup supplies will be available, or you can bring your own, according to Explore Ecology.
As a thank you, volunteers will receive a coupon for a free cup of chowder from Santa Barbara Shellfish Co., Explore Ecology said.
During the cleanup, volunteers can stop by the Watershed Resource Center to see interactive displays and learn simple ways they take action to keep local creeks and watersheds healthy and clean.
Community service hours are available for this volunteer opportunity.
