The GVGSA Goleta 12U Thunder dominated its way to a Gold Division championship at the El Rio Beach Blast Tournament last weekend in El Rio.
The Thunder went 4-0 across the tournament, outscoring their matchups by a combined score of 36-11 to finish atop the six-team field.
After winning three straight games to advance to the title matchup, Goleta pulled out a 9-6 victory in the championship.
“Between the hot hitting, stellar defense and great pitching, the girls really played well, and we are all excited to see them continue to improve,” Goleta manager Nick Henderson said. “They were locked in all week at practice, taking ownership of the skills they were learning, practicing hard, and asking lots of questions.
“It was fun to see them take their game up another level and have a lot of fun doing it.”
The Thunder offense put together a team batting average of .464 on the weekend and combined for 39 total hits. Meanwhile, the pitching staff turned in a strong performance as well en route to the title. Goleta scored 11 first-inning runs and never trailed throughout the weekend.
