The Goleta City Council will conduct a public hearing at its 5:30 p.m. meeting Tuesday, Dec. 3 to examine new accessory dwelling unit (ADU) ordinances.
The hearing will consider the adoption of Urgency and Non-Urgency Ordinances to amend Title 17 (zoning) of the Goleta Municipal Code related to ADUs and Junior Accessory Dwelling Units (JADUs).
The meeting will be held in person in City Council Chambers, 130 Cremona Drive, and via the Zoom platform. The meeting can be viewed as well on Goleta TV Channel 19 and online at www.cityofgoleta.org/meetings-agendas.
Due to new legislation this year, Assembly Bill 2533 and Senate Bill 1211, the proposed ordinances include a new set of citywide ADU and JADU standards that will fully comply with the changes in state law. Changes that will be discussed include:
• Unpermitted ADUs and JADUs
• Replacement Parking Requirements
• Definition of Livable Space
• Multi-Family ADUs – Number of Detached ADUs
Other revisions include minor alignments with State ADU law; updated State ADU law citations; updated and added specific cross-references; clarifying clauses and subsection titles; and added references to applicability to JADUs, where appropriate.
The content of the Urgency and Non-Urgency Ordinances is the same. If adopted, the Urgency Ordinance would become effective immediately. The Non-Urgency Ordinance would become effective at a later date.
The full agenda, including staff reports and documents, will be posted at least 72 hours before the hearing on the city’s website.
