A Goleta man was arrested Monday after threatening to kill his partner, leading to deputies seizing several of his firearms.
Patrick Kennedy, 41, was booked into the Santa Barbara County Main Jail on charges of assault by strangulation, false imprisonment, domestic battery causing injury, felony child endangerment, criminal threats and brandishing a weapon, according to Raquel Zick, public information officer for the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call on the 6200 block of Avenida Gorrion in northeastern Goleta early Monday morning after Kennedy’s partner fled from the home and called 9-1-1, saying Kennedy threatened to kill her.
When deputies arrived on the scene, Kennedy refused to go to the door and spoke to deputies only through a Ring doorbell camera, according to Zick.
During the investigation, deputies learned that Kennedy had spent the night handling his firearms and later walked around the neighborhood wearing a ski mask.
Kennedy also had recently threatened a neighbor with a replica hand grenade. Deputies learned that he was known to keep loaded firearms inside his home and in the glove box of his vehicle, according to Zick.
Around 1 p.m. Monday, Kennedy left his home and was uncooperative with deputies but was eventually taken into custody.
After getting a search warrant for Kennedy’s home, deputies confiscated 10 rifles, one shotgun, four pistols and thousands of rounds of ammunition, Zick said.
“This case reflects the painstaking investigation and thorough follow-up by deputies, which resulted in the safe arrest of a dangerous suspect and the removal of a large cache of firearms and ammunition from the community,” Zick said.
Kennedy is being held in the county’s Main Jail with bail set at $500,000.
